Ruby

Hi my name is Carlee Hodges.
I have a three legged dog named Ruby.
My family and I rescued her from the shelter.
She is about 6 months old.
She lost her leg by getting hit by a car before we had her.
She is very curious about everything.
She is special to me because I love the way she wiggles when she walks and how she makes me laugh and I love helping her.
It means a lot to help someone.
I am in third grade, by the way.

Tanner

A little over a week ago, we found out about a 4 month old puppy named Tanner that showed up at a Vet clinic on the east side of Dallas with a leg that had been broken in two places, the femur and the tibia.

The doc felt confident he would be fine after surgery.
Today we were told the surgery didn't go well.
X-rays didn't show how badly the hip joint had been mangled.
We don't know what happened to Tanner, but he pulled through surgery with flying colors and we are excited about finally bringing the guy home. He is part (mostly) Catahoula and has a great presence about him. I'm sure our two cats and grandchildren will love him as much as we do.

Thank you for the kind words.
I keep telling my wife he will be just fine, I've been around three-legged dogs all my life and they function just like any other dog. I agree, I think it is a small blessing it is his hind leg. We can't wait to get him home.
We went out this weekend and spent over $100 on toys and a bed. Stupid humans :)
Hey Cynthia, just wanted to send you a later picture of Tanner. He's put on over 10 pounds since we got him home and is doing great. Click Here to read his story on the Animal Rescue site:

Hey Cynthia, it's been almost a year since I joined your club and thought I would let you know that our Tanner has really come a long way. Where before he wouldn't get in a car under any circumstances, he now really enjoys going for a ride. This last weekend, we took an 11 hour car trip and he loved all of it. Here is a recent picture. Thanks for all you do.

Thanks for the kind words, Cynthia. He is such a sweetie.
I was working in the back yard after work yesterday and decided I needed some more lawn mower gas. Instead of putting Tanner back in the house, I just opened the car door and told him to hop in.
He did, and we went to the gas station.
That's the first time he sat in the car without getting out.
I think as long as he could see me, it was cool.
He has developed into a wonderful little friend.
