Sophie

Hi!
This is my beautiful 1 year old baby girl, Sophie.
We got her when she was 8 weeks old and she has been my heart
since the day we picked her up at the pound.
She is a fun loving and outgoing lab mix.
On the 9th of October of this year, she managed to sneak out the front door and was sadly hit by a very large truck.

Luckily, it was only her paw that got hit and no other part of her body.
The following Tuesday, she had her front right leg amputated.
I was very worried when I went to go pick her up at the vet's.
Scared that I was not going to be able to care for her properly,
worried that she was going to be somehow different.
To my surprise, she came hopping out to where I was,
and jumped up on me and gave me love and hugs.
It has been a week now since the accident,
and even though she is still tired and a bit lethargic,
her old personality is shining through,
and when I take her out, she actually pulls me along.

I never thought I could love my dog as much as I did prior to the accident, but she has proven me wrong!

Georgia

Hi Cassie,
I first stumbled across your Club when I was researching three-legged dogs on the internet. After finding out our family dog has bone cancer and that her limb would be removed, I researched everywhere to get all the details I could to help her through it.

I am so thankful I found your site, as my family and I were unsure whether our beautiful girl would struggle with three legs because of her size, but I have now learnt that there are other Saint Bernards in the same situation.

For days, I read all the stories on your site and found comfort in knowing we could get our Georgia through this. Boy have I now also learnt what a strong and willing dog we had, especially at the age of nine. I found great comfort in your advice and what to expect; it prepared me for what was about to happen when the operation was over, keeping me strong for Georgia.

Although our story has ended in sadness, I still want to share it with you. We grieve every hour of the day for her, but we know she is no longer in any pain and we did all we could for her.
